Shopping for shower accessories for your bathroom?

If you’re renovating your bathroom, living in the United States is ideal because you’ll be spoiled for choice. One only has to google “shower accessories” and you’ll find a million options to toss into your virtual shopping cart. Still, you can’t just slip any old thing you find on eBay into your bathroom. Shower accessories need to be made in a certain way to withstand the effects of humidity as well as the test of time. On top of that, you want them to look fabulous too, right?

To help you get it right, we’ve created a list of stylish essential shower accessories that’ll go the distance.

Storage solutions

Are you still cluttering the floor of your shower with all your lotions and potions? Worse yet, are you using one of those horrible-looking wire baskets from IKEA? You know the type. The kind that attaches to the shower wall with mould-magnet suction cups. The kind where it’s only a matter of time before it crashes to the ground, reducing your favorite Aesop shampoo to a pile of smashed glass and goop!

Nobody deserves that. Now is the time to elevate your shower experience from college dorm to “happy place” and this starts with investing in a wall-mounted shower rack. The kind you want to buy is going to be made of a super-strong, rust resistant metal like Grade 304 Stainless Steel, the kind you’ll find at Bathroom Butler. It’s got the edge over chrome because it’s so naturally resistant to corrosion it doesn’t require a coating that can chip or scratch.

Lucky legs

If you’re living life in the fast lane, chances are you shave your legs in the shower. Still, much like everything else in your life, this can be a real balancing act. If you’re sick of doing the flamingo – a potentially risky business if your shower doors are made of glass – it’s time to get a shower foot rest. This is the kind of thing you might encounter in a 5-star hotel and, once you’ve experienced this taste of “little luxe”, it’s something you won’t want to let go of.

If you buy one of our shower foot rests, available in Polished or Brushed Stainless Steel and Matte Black, you’ll get to benefit from our patented RIGID Loc mounting system. It ensures your foot rest stays firmly fixed in the wall with no wobbles.

Let’s talk towels

A top quality towel rail versus a chip-prone chrome number you found on Amazon will always give your bathroom more allure. At Bathroom Butler, ours are made using that brilliant stainless steel we mentioned. Also, like all our products, they boast a ten year guarantee!

Now let’s chat about sizing. Our towel rails are available in several lengths to suit any space. If you’re wanting to add one to a family bathroom, think about getting a 32 inch double rail rack as it can hold up to four towels – two on each rail. Another good option for a family home is our towel shelf with a hang bar. It can store several towels on its shelf as well as two folded towels on the rail beneath it.

By hook or by crook

Last but not least, what are you going to do with your robe when you take it off? Hanging it over a door isn’t great. Draping it over the side of the bath is worse. Actually wait – having to hang it off yet another plastic suction cup hook a la IKEA would be rock bottom. Let’s not do that.

If you’ve taken the time to invest in quality shower accessories, go all the way and finish strong with a Bathroom Butler robe hook. We have three for you to choose from in styles that range from classic to mod. A little detail, but one that makes all the difference between just living… and living luxe!

Heated towel racks 101

A must read before you buy

A wall-mounted heated towel rack is a great way to ensure you enjoy a daily dose of comfort and luxury. The only way to understand that feeling of a dry towel every morning is to experience it off a heated towel rail.

Also, if you’ve been using a tumble dryer to dry your towels, making the switch can help you reduce your energy bill – but only if you buy smart. There are lots of different types of heated towel racks on the market and not all of them will be clever purchases. Happily, we’ve created a guide to help you purchase the best of the best.

Know your type

What’s going on inside your heated towel rack?

If it’s filled with fluid it’s going to be very heavy, take a long time to heat up and you’ll run the risk of leaks. For these reasons, it’s best to buy a dry element towel rack such as those you’ll find at Bathroom Butler. Thanks to our exclusive Dry Element Technology (DET), our towel racks’ bars heat up via a silicone-coated wire. When a towel is placed over them, the area under the towel will get even warmer, but the exposed parts don’t. It’s a much smarter and safer way to roll. Or dry your towels.

Size matters

Choosing a heated towel rack with the correct towel holding capacity fit for your needs should be your first consideration.

If you’re livin la vida bachelor you don’t need to heat up enough towels to dry a soccer team. In this case, you’d need something like our NATURAL 5 Bar 20” heated towel rack that can easily dry two folded bath sheets.

Heated towel racks 101 - Natural 5 Bar 20inch
Heated towel racks 101 - Natural 15 Bar 20inch

However, if you’re wanting to install something in a family bathroom it’s best to think big – or possibly face stiff competition to be the first to get into the bathroom each morning. We have lots of larger towel racks that could fit the bill, including our NATURAL 15 Bar 20” heated towel rack. Which can comfortably hold four folded bath towels or 3 folded bath sheets!

The perfect placement

Ideally, you want to mount your heated towel rack as close to your bath or shower as possible. Still, you need to consider where your electricity is coming from.

Many consumers forget about this and end up purchasing a towel rack with wiring that ends up being on the wrong side. Can we get an “Aaaaargh!”? Fortunately, this isn’t a problem if you’re buying from Bathroom Butler. All our heated towel racks feature dual electrical entry – on the bottom left and the bottom right. This way, you can plug them in on either the left or the right hand side. Also, if your plug point sat higher up the wall, you could flip our towel racks and install them upside down. For the record, you couldn’t do this with the fluid-filled type as their heating element always has to be on the bottom to prevent it from burning out.

Know your metal

Heated towel racks are made from different materials, and all are not created equal.

In Europe, aluminum is a popular material used to make heated towel racks. Manufacturer’s tout the fact that it heats up quickly as a big pro, but the downside is that it doesn’t retain its heat for as long as steel. It’s also not as sturdy. Then there’s chrome-plated steel. This is where things get dicey because there’s no industry standard regulating that quality of the plating and, if you end up with something lightly coated, it’s going to chip, scratch and rust. This is why our Bathroom Butler heated towel racks are made from super strong, rust-resistant Grade 304 stainless steel to ensure they last decades, not just a couple of years. And as for slower heating? That’s not true at all! All our heated towel racks can heat up within 10 to 15 minutes!

Ultimately, when you know what you’re looking for and can make an informed choice, it’s easy to buy the very best.

The biggest bathroom decor trends of 2020.

Has spending more time at home got you thinking you’d like to switch up your scatter cushions? Maybe recover the couch? You’re not alone. Many people are itching to renovate and while the pandemic’s put a dampener on large scale plans, smaller spaces, such as bathrooms, have become a top project.

If you’re one of the many wanting to give yours a makeover, check out these top bathroom décor trends of 2020 to help get you feeling inspired.

The bidet makes a comeback

Thanks to the toilet paper panic that swept America in March, the sales of bidet attachments is skyrocketing. This way, you don’t have to worry too much if you can’t find your favorite 3-ply on the shelves. Still, not everyone’s bothered by COVID-19-induced panic buying. As it turns out, the Polished Stainless Steel toilet paper holder from our timeless-looking 4600 series is one of our top three bestselling products. Thanks to a patented RIGID Loc mounting system, it’s never going to wiggle around on your wall.

Marbleized wallpaper

Marble bathrooms have always been a thing. Still, it’s an expensive look to pull off. Marbleized wallpaper, however, allows you to get the look without having to empty out your wallet. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t put wallpaper in a bathroom. If it’s not in a splash-zone and you treat it with a sealant, you can enjoy a fresh new look that’s for keeps.

Getting warmer

Cool-toned bathrooms with a palette of white, grey and silver will always be a classic. However, there’s a new shift towards a warmer look. Think elegant beige, taupe, cream and rose-hued marble; earthy-looking Travertine and tan-colored Terracotta. In this case, cool-toned silver bathroom fixtures could look out of place, but now copper, brass and anything yellow or rose gold-plated can get a chance to shine.

Black beauty

They say black never goes out of fashion but it’s also never been more in vogue when it comes to bathroom fixtures. Still, it’s not just any black that’ll do – it’s got to be matte. This finish du jour has been showing up not just in bathrooms but kitchens too. While it’s typically masculine and modern, it doesn’t have to be. Pairing matte black fixtures with softer touches – think orchids, oriental rugs and romantic old-world cabinetry – can create a beautiful juxtaposition. At Bathroom Butler, you’ll find our Natural and Cubic collection heated towel racks are available in Matte Black as well as many of our bathroom accessories to match.

Matt black heated towel rail with 8 bars.

Mirror, mirror

Often, a bathroom mirror exists solely as whatever’s glued to the front of your medicine cabinet. Now, however, homeowners are scrapping those entirely in favor of large, framed mirrors that take centre stage. They’re a quick and easy way to really elevate any space, bathroom or otherwise, and create a “boutique hotel” feeling in a flash. Also, you don’t have to opt for just one. If you’ve got twin sinks, opt for twin framed mirrors to give any bathroom a real sense of drama.

High shine finish

While matte black fixtures have seen a surge in popularity, stainless steel is still a top pick. In fact, it’s the most popular choice amongst our Bathroom Butler customers when it comes to any of our fixtures. Speaking of, our Natural 5 Bar heated towel rack in Polished Stainless Steel is still our bestselling towel rack. So much so that it’s one of our top three bestselling products! As it’s made from superior quality Grade 304 Stainless Steel it doesn’t require a coating to serve up a gorgeous-looking gleam. It’s also rust-resistant and, because it’s not porous, won’t become a magnet for bacteria.

Bathroom color trends for 2020

While the 60s and 70s were all about avocado and the 80s and 90s fell hard for monochrome, today’s biggest bathroom color trends run the gamut. Still, emerald is having a massive moment. So much so that Vogue magazine recently announced green as the new Millennial Pink. Two other hot color trends to choose from include decadent dark chocolate and any shade of warm, creamy vanilla. If any of these colors spark your imagination that’s good news because we’re going to help you find the perfect fixtures to match. Creating a great overall look isn’t as simple as popping in any old tap.

If you’re up for Emerald

The great thing about jewel tones is that they look great with any metal. Still, if you pop onto Pinterest and search for emerald-coloured bathrooms, you’ll see a major trend emerge and that’s green paired with warmer metallics like gold and bronze. To get the look, make green your hero shade and limit the gold or bronze to just your fixtures and a few statement pieces – like a large Baroque-style mirror. Speaking of which, many don’t realize that all our Bathroom Butler products, heated towel racks included, are available in custom colors. Thanks to a process called PVD Plating, we can add a translucent color coat to anything, be it Brushed or Stainless Steel. Our most popular request is Brushed Brass, a lovely bronze hue, that would look fantastic in any emerald bathroom.

All in for Hot Chocolate?

Dark decor is a trend that’s been around for a while but has recently gained huge momentum as well as evolved. At one point, to pull off the look, all you had to do was paint your walls in a deep, mysterious shade like charcoal or burnt umber then introduce whatever furniture and accessories you liked. Now, the key is to keep everything in the room from the same dark palette and let their varied textures do the talking. It’s a brilliantly bold look for a bathroom so, if it’s talking to you, ensure all your fittings are just as dark. Happily, all the bathroom accessories in our classic 4600 Series and edgy-looking 8500 Series are available in Matte Black. Better yet, our Natural and Cubic heated towel rack ranges cross over to the dark side too!

CUBIC 6 Bar 530mm Straight Heated Towel Rail with PTSelect Switch in Matt Black.

Got a craving for Cream?

Being a warm-toned neutral, cream matches almost everything but looks best with other shades that have a slightly warm undertone. This doesn’t mean you’re limited to gold or bronze fixtures, however. Even “silver” metals can run from cool to warm. For example, chrome is an “icy”, cool-toned silver. Then, you get slightly warmer-looking silvers like stainless steel. Much like nickel, it’s more on the grey side of the spectrum and has a very subtle orange undertone. This makes it the perfect partner for warm neutrals like cream. However, as it’s still silver-colored, it also pairs beautifully with any cooler hues. This is why all our Bathroom Butler heated towel racks and accessories are made in universally flattering Brushed Stainless Steel that has a matte finish as well as Polished Stainless Steel that boasts a lovely shine. This way, whatever color palette you choose, you’ll be sure to meet your match!

Ever wondered why your bathroom towels sometimes smell musty, even after just a few uses? The answer lies in bathroom hygiene, particularly how we dry and care for our towels.

This post will explore why proper towel care is crucial for a healthy bathroom environment and reveal how heated towel racks offer an effective solution.

From reducing the proliferation of bacteria on towels to minimizing laundry loads, discover how these modern fixtures can transform your bathroom into a more hygienic space.

Key takeaways

  • Independent testing proves heated towel racks effectively reduce bacterial levels, with a 75% reduction in microbial load over 12 days.
  • Rapid drying eliminates the damp conditions bacteria need to multiply, preventing musty odors and extending the freshness of towels between uses.
  • Maintaining dry towels between uses reduces cross-contamination in shared bathrooms, especially important for hand towels used by multiple people.

Why is Bathroom Hygiene Important

Most of us focus our cleaning efforts on obvious bathroom surfaces—scrubbing toilets, wiping countertops, and mopping floors.

However, the bathroom’s unique environment creates challenges that go beyond surface cleanliness.

The combination of heat and moisture in this frequently used space makes it particularly vulnerable to bacterial and fungal growth.

Even in well-ventilated bathrooms, water vapor settles on surfaces and seeps into materials, creating ideal conditions for microorganisms to thrive.

Despite regular cleaning routines, these often-overlooked moisture-related issues can compromise your bathroom’s hygiene.

How Towels Impact Bathroom Hygiene

While we rely on towels for drying after washing, they can harbor more microorganisms than you might expect.

Research by microbiologist Dr. Charles Gerba revealed some concerning statistics: 90% of bathroom towels contain coliform bacteria, and 14% carry E. coli – both indicators of fecal contamination. Even more alarming, a square inch of a typical towel can host up to 164,000 bacteria.

Hand towels are particularly problematic in bathrooms.

Used multiple times daily by different people, they quickly become saturated and rarely have time to dry properly between uses. When a hand towel stays damp, bacteria multiply within its fibers, and using it after washing can transfer these bacteria back onto clean hands.

Traditional drying methods compound these issues.

Hanging towels on hooks causes the fabric to bunch together, trapping moisture between folds. In contrast, towels draped over standard towel bars often remain damp in the middle where air circulation is limited. This inadequate drying in a humid bathroom can take hours, creating an ongoing bacterial growth cycle that regular washing alone can’t address.

How Heated Towel Racks Improve Towel Hygiene

Now that we understand the importance of bathroom hygiene and the impact of damp towels, it’s essential to address the challenges they create. Heated towel racks provide an effective solution by actively drying towels, preventing moisture buildup, and maintaining freshness.

Below, we explore their key benefits and how they contribute to a cleaner bathroom environment.

Dry Your Towels Faster

The primary benefit of heated towel racks is their ability to rapidly and thoroughly dry towels, eliminating the moisture and dampness bacteria need to grow.

Bathroom Butler’s innovative Dry Element Technology (DET) sets a new standard for towel drying efficiency.

Unlike fluid-filled models that can take up to 90 minutes to warm up, our heated towel racks are equipped with DET technology and rapid heating, reaching operational temperature in just 15 minutes. The system’s Direct Intelligent Heating (DIH) feature traps heat beneath towels, ensuring thorough and efficient drying.

Just how effective is this approach?

An independent study commissioned by Bathroom Butler identified the microbial bacterial load on damp towels before and after drying.

The results were compelling: heated towel racks reduced bacteria levels from 1000 to 1, with testing over a 12-day period showing a 75% reduction in microbial load.

[ux_text class=”red-link”]

Prevent Musty Towel Odors

That telltale musty smell from towels signals bacteria and mildew thriving in the fibers.

Heated towel racks maintain a consistent temperature that keeps your towels dry between uses, preventing these unwanted odors from developing.

The result is a fresher bathroom environment without constantly replacing damp, musty towels.

The musty odors in damp towels are primarily caused by bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus, and various fungi that thrive in moist environments.

These microbes feed on organic residues trapped in towel fibers—including dead skin cells, natural oils, soap residue, and body fluids—producing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) like sulfur compounds, fatty acids, and aldehydes as metabolic byproducts.

This process accelerates significantly when towels remain damp for more than 3-4 hours, especially in warm, humid bathrooms.

By rapidly removing the moisture microbes need to multiply and metabolize, heated towel racks slow microbial growth and help prevent odors from forming.

Minimise Cross-Contamination

In shared bathrooms, hand towels can become vectors for bacteria, particularly when used by multiple people throughout the day.

Damp towels create an ideal breeding ground for microbes, increasing the risk of cross-contamination and reintroducing germs to freshly washed hands.

High-traffic bathrooms face the most significant risk, as each user deposits their unique microbiome onto shared towels. In moist conditions, bacteria multiply rapidly, making it easy for the next person to pick up these germs and transfer them to other surfaces or their skin.

This especially concerns individuals with sensitive skin conditions like eczema, where bacterial exposure can trigger infections.

Heated towel racks break this cycle by quickly drying towels, reducing moisture buildup and microbial survival. This significantly lowers the risk of bacteria spreading between users, making them a valuable addition to family and guest bathrooms where hygiene is a priority.

Superior Material for Enhanced Hygiene

In humid bathroom environments, corrosion resistance is essential for long-lasting performance. Materials that rust or degrade over time not only require frequent replacement but can also compromise the look and functionality of bathroom fixtures.

Another exceptional feature of Bathroom Butler’s heated towel racks is their corrosion-resistant Grade 304 Stainless Steel, which ensures superior durability in moisture-rich spaces.

This premium stainless steel maintains its integrity, unlike coated or lower-grade metals that may rust or chip, making it a low-maintenance and long-lasting solution.

Its non-porous surface also prevents bacteria from collecting, adding an extra layer of protection while keeping your towel rack looking pristine for years to come.

Final Thoughts on How Heated Towel Racks Support Bathroom Hygiene

Heated towel racks keep towels dry between uses, reducing damp conditions that can lead to mildew and musty odors. With corrosion-resistant Grade 304 Stainless Steel, they also ensure durability in humid environments, making them a reliable, long-term solution.

Bathroom Essentials list

Considering a revamp? Our list of bathroom essentials will help you shop

Now that we’re spending so much time at home, you might be one of the many who’s gotten the itch to redecorate. Still, when it comes from making the move from whipping up Pinterest boards to actual buying, don’t let these bathroom essentials get lost in the mix. It’s tempting to compromise on quality when you’re making several big purchases all at once, but you’ll usually end up paying in the long term. Also, don’t forget to apply the same policy to those often overlooked “little things” as they can make or break a great bathroom. To help you out, we made a list. Are you ready to get stuck in?

A wall-mounted heated towel rack

If you’re wanting to create a truly luxurious space, a heated towel rack will be first on your list. When shopping, remember what we said about the quality going the distance and consider investing in a superior heated towel rack, such as those you’ll find at Bathroom Butler. We’ll deliver directly to your door and you can select your towel rack with confidence as they all feature dual-entry electrical connections. This way, it doesn’t matter which side of the wall your electrical connection is located. No inconvenient surprises, no fuss. Just instant luxe!

polished stainless steel EDGE 10 Bar 500mm Straight Heated Towel Rail with PTSelect Switch.

A top-quality toilet paper holder

It’s something you’ll reach for many times a day, but many underestimate the importance of a top-quality toilet paper holder. If you’re still leaving your roll on top of the toilet or it’s spinning on a spindly piece of plastic, it’s time to step things up. Bathroom Butler has several stylish options for you to choose from – even a double-sided toilet paper holder – and they’re all made from Grade 304 stainless steel. This means they’re not going to rust, chip or scratch such as those made from lesser grade steel or plated with chrome. Also, thanks to a patented RIGID Loc mounting system, they’re not going to wobble on your wall.

Paper Holder Double.

A good-looking toilet brush holder

Another completely overlooked bathroom essential is a stylish toilet brush holder. So many people give their bathroom a gorgeous makeover and then ruin their new aesthetic by including a cheap, plastic toilet brush holder. Don’t do it! Rather invest in the best. At Bathroom Butler, you’ll find a gorgeous-looking toilet brush + holder in our classic 8500 and modern 5800 series. The former features a glass bowl and the latter’s stainless steel holder conceals a plastic insert. Both are easy to remove and clean. Also, when the brush head starts to wear, it’s very easy to replace.

Matching robe hooks

Your towels are going to live on your heated towel rack. But what about your robe? Your bathroom’s starting to come together at this point. Now, slapping on a stick-on plastic hook (the kind you know is going to fall off at some point) would be like putting a bumper sticker on a Bentley. Instead, keep your luxurious theme going with a Bathroom Butler Robe Hook. We have both single and double hooks for you to choose from in several designs – from the timeless, rounded elegance of our 4600 series to the modern, square lines of those in our 8500 series. No more hanging your robe up over the back of a door. Leave that messy look to someone else.

A shower foot rest

Why go almost all the way with a luxurious bathroom overhaul only to stop short? If you ask us, installing a shower foot rest is the last word in luxe! The Shower Foot Rest in our classic 4600 series is available in polished or brushed stainless steel as well as matte black. Now, shaving or washing your legs is an absolute pleasure – not a balancing act.

A great bath mat

Many people are quick to invest in thick, fluffy towels then neglect their bath mat. Sadly, nothing ruins a look faster than a plasticky afterthought. Our suggestion is to pay the same amount of attention to the quality of your bathmat as you would your towels. Opting for 100% cotton will ensure they’re super absorbent and feel fabulous underfoot. We spotted some great-looking options at Cologne and Cotton.

The bottom line

At the end of the day, if you’re in the market for a bathroom makeover, remember that quality is king and paying attention to the little things can make a big difference. Happy shopping!

How to find a premium quality heated towel rack

Shopping for a heated towel rack? As with most things, it’s a case of “buyer beware”. You might think you’ve nabbed a bargain, but you’ll get the quality you pay for. Also, inferior materials and poor design could cost you in the long run. Fortunately, making sure you buy a luxe investment purchase instead of a lemon is just a case of knowing what to look out for.

Know your metal

As it turns out, not all steel is created equally. The kind you want to look out for is Grade 304 Stainless Steel, the type from which all Bathroom Butler heated towel racks are made. It’s incredibly rust-resistant and, being non-porous, no bacteria can stick to it. Also, all it requires is a quick wipe to achieve a gorgeous-looking gleam.

Many inferior heated towel racks use a lower grade quality of steel that’s prone to rust. They also have to be coated to recreate the natural shine of Grade 304 steel, so they’re easy to chip or scratch. Sadly, without chemical testing, it’s impossible to tell what grade you’re getting and some unscrupulous brands will lead you to believe you’re buying 304 Grade when you’re not.

Look out for heat control

Not all heated towel racks offer a built-in controller that allows you to adjust the heat setting. This is definitely something you’re going to want which is why all our Bathroom Butler models have them. It means you don’t have to install a separate switch at the wall and gives you the freedom of choice. Want your heated towel rack to work harder in winter? Of course! Would rather turn it down in the hotter months. For sure. This makes sense and allows you to save on electricity in the long run.

Polished Stainless Steel CUBIC 6 Bar 530mm Straight Heated Towel Rail with PTSelect Switch.

Dry element heating technology is best

Some heated towel racks, particularly those made in Europe, are fluid-filled. This is an older heating technology typical of towel racks that are very slow to heat up. At Bathroom Butler, we know you’ve got a need for speed so we use dry element heating technology (DET). It allows our towel racks to heat up within minutes so they use less electricity. Also, a lot less of the towel rack’s surface heats up, which is safer. However, because the temperature underneath the towels increases, they’ll dry a lot faster. We call this Direct Intelligent Heating (DIH). Our customer’s call it “convenient” and “clever”!

Have it both ways

What’s great about our Bathroom Butler heated towel racks is that they all have dual entry electrical connections. This means it doesn’t matter which side of the wall your electrical connection is located – you can simply flip our towel racks around to suit! Many competitor products only have a single entry electrical connection. This has resulted in endless stress for their customers who’ve waited forever for a heated towel rack to arrive, only to realise they’re unable to connect it.

Get the after sales care you deserve

Many heated towel racks are welded together so when something goes wrong you can’t open them up and repair them. Happily, this isn’t a concern when you purchase a Bathroom Butler heated towel rack. They’re assembled via a unique, “no welding”, patented construction method that makes them fully serviceable. Better yet, they come with a great peace-of-mind guarantee – 10 years on the product material, 5 years on the heating element and 1 year on the controller.

In short, if you buy an inferior heated towel rack, the experience could be costly and short-lived. With Bathroom Butler, you get a top-quality product that can save you money in the long run while enjoying all the luxury it offers for many years to come. When it comes to choosing a brand to enhance your bathroom, the winner is pretty clear.

Why Heated Towel Rack Myths Exist

Ever noticed how some of the best bathroom innovations get tangled up in misunderstandings? Heated towel racks are no exception!

These clever devices have been around for years in luxury hotels and spas, but as they’ve made their way into our homes, a bunch of myths have tagged along for the ride.

The main reason? Most people’s first encounter with heated towel racks was in high-end hotels, leading them to view these devices as pure luxury items rather than practical bathroom essentials.

Add in concerns about energy costs and a general misunderstanding of how they actually work, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for myths and misconceptions.

Plus, with older, less efficient models still floating around in people’s memories, it’s no wonder some folks are skeptical about bringing one into their homes.

But here’s the thing: modern heated towel racks are a whole different story, and it’s time to set the record straight.

Myth 1: Heated towel racks exist to warm towels

Here’s the biggest myth we hear all the time—that heated towel racks are just fancy towel warmers for people who love luxury. Not even close!

While having a gently warmed and cozy towel is definitely a nice perk, the real superpower of these devices is their ability to dry your towels quickly and efficiently. Why does this matter? Because damp towels are basically bacteria’s favorite breeding ground

A heated towel rack can dry your towel in just a few hours, compared to leaving it hanging on the back of the bathroom door, where it might stay damp all day. This speedy drying time helps inhibit bacteria growth, keeping your towels more hygienic and fresh for longer.

So, while that dry, warm towel feels amazing (and it really does!), you’re actually getting something much more important: a cleaner, healthier bathroom routine.

Myth 2: Heated towel racks are expensive to run

Think running a heated towel rack will send your electricity bill through the roof? Think again!

Here’s a surprise that shocks most people – these smart devices only use about as much power as a regular light bulb (we’re talking 40 to 180W). That means you can keep it running all day without stressing about costs.

Even better? All Bathroom Butler heated towel racks come with a PTSelect (Personal Temperature Selection) switch for temperature adjustment and can be connected to Wi-Fi switches, putting you in complete control of your energy consumption. You can adjust the power settings and schedule your rack to run only when you need it, maximizing energy efficiency.

And here’s the really cool part—since you won’t be tossing your damp towels in the energy-hungry dryer anymore, you might actually see your bills go down. In fact, if you’re currently a heavy dryer user, your heated towel rack could pay for itself in just a few months!

Myth 3: You don’t need a heated towel rack in warm weather

Let’s tackle another common myth about heated towel racks—they’re only good for cold weather!

Many people think hot summer days mean their towel rack can take a vacation, but that’s far from the truth. No matter the season, your bathroom is still a humid environment, and your towels get wet after every shower or bath.

That moisture attracts bacteria all year round, and in humid summer weather, towels can actually take longer to dry naturally than in winter, leading to that dreaded musty smell. A heated towel rack keeps your towels dry and fresh 365 days a year, and with our PTSelect switch, you can easily adjust the power settings to match the season, ensuring optimal efficiency no matter the weather.

Myth 4: Heated towel racks take forever to heat up

Whoever told you heated towel racks are slow to warm up must not have met our modern designs!

Thanks to our innovative Dry Element Technology (DET), Bathroom Butler heated towel racks reach their optimal temperature in just 15 minutes. That’s right! While old-school fluid-filled models might take up to 90 minutes to get going, our racks are ready to work before you’ve even finished your morning coffee.

The secret? DET delivers heat directly to your towels through the bars, trapping warmth where it matters most, underneath the towel. This means faster drying times and more efficient performance, so your towels start drying the moment you hang them up.

Shop our collection online to experience the speed and efficiency of DET technology with our innovative heated towel racks.

Myth 5: Heated towel racks can’t be used to dry clothing

Here’s a myth we need to clear up! Nothing’s actually stopping you from drying clothes on your heated towel rack, but there are a few things to keep in mind.

While these racks are designed primarily for towels, they’ll happily help dry other items. Just remember what works best—damp items, not sopping wet. Those dripping-wet clothes are better off in the sun or the dryer where they belong.

One important thing to note about heated towel racks is that they can get quite warm, though not as hot as an iron. So you’ll need to think carefully about what you hang on them. Do you have clothes with plastisol prints that could melt or delicate fabrics that don’t play nice with heat? Best to keep those away and find them another drying spot.

The rule here is simple—if your clothing can handle moderate heat, it’ll do just fine on your heated towel rack.

Myth 6: Heated towel racks replace the need for a dryer

Let’s tackle this myth with a pinch of common sense!

While heated towel racks are amazing at what they do, they won’t completely replace your dryer—and that’s perfectly okay. Here’s the deal with drying: heated towel racks are perfect for damp towels and clothes that just need a gentle dry, but anything soaking wet will be better off in the sun or dryer.

Where these racks really shine is in their everyday convenience. Imagine running to your dryer every time you want to shower. That’s not just inconvenient, it’s expensive too!

With a heated towel rack, your towel starts drying as soon as you hang it up after use, and it’s ready and waiting for your next shower. No planning ahead, no wasted energy, just perfect, dry towels right where you need them.

Myth 7: A heated towel rack means rarely washing your towels

Let’s bust our last myth! While heated towel racks make a huge difference in towel hygiene, they don’t eliminate the need for washing but change how often you’ll need to do it.

Here’s why: no matter how thoroughly you shower, your towel will collect bacteria from your body. The longer a towel stays damp, the more these bacteria multiply. On a regular rail, this means washing your towels every second or third day to avoid what we call a “bacteria block party.”

But here’s where heated towel racks work their magic: by drying your towels quickly, they reduce the time bacteria have to grow. In fact, testing shows towels dried on heated towel racks have up to 75% lower microbial load than those dried on regular rails. That means you can get an extra day or two between washes. Less laundry and fresher towels? That’s a win-win!

Shop our selection of heated towel racks online and enjoy fresher, cleaner towels with less frequent washing.

Create a 5-star hotel feeling with a wall-mounted heated towel rack

Create a 5-star hotel feeling with a wall-mounted heated towel rack

We’re spending more time at home than ever before so it makes sense to want to make things extra comfy. But why stop at “nice” when you can head straight to “hello there, 5-star hotel”. After all, we’re not going to be travelling anytime soon, so we might as well live it up at home. Installing a wall-mounted heated towel rack is a great place to start. Unlike a freestanding model that’ll take up floor space, a wall-mounted heated towel rack attaches directly to the wall. This way, you don’t have to worry about tripping over a plug or have yet another thing to move around when you’re trying to clean. Also, if you pick one of Bathroom Butler’s gorgeous-looking, state-of-the-art towel racks, you’ll find installation’s all too easy.

Have it both ways

With most other heated towel racks, you have to specify whether you want a left or right-hand electrical connection. Many people get this wrong and end up ordering a towel rack that has to be returned. Definitely not the kind of admin you want when your goal is to create a life that’s high on luxe and low on fuss! What’s great about a Bathroom Butler wall mounted towel rack is that it boasts dual entry. This means it has both a left and right-hand electrical connection. (Yep, it’s as cleverly designed as it’s good-looking!) It’s also going to save you money because it heats up faster than other brands. Within just 10 to 15 minutes it’s hot enough to start drying your towels!

Let’s talk textiles!

Speaking of towels, the next step in turning your bathroom into a spa-like experience is to luxe up your linens. We suggest investing in deliciously thick towels made from 100% cotton. This will ensure they’re super soft to the touch as well as wonderfully absorbent. Also, because Bathroom Butler’s heated towel racks rely on Direct Intelligent Heating, they’ll dry your towels in just four hours. This way, you can keep them in fabulously fluffy condition!

Set the mood

Last, but not least, if you’re on a mission for sensory bliss, it’s time to makeover your products. Toss that 2-in-1shower gel for something with a creamy, dreamy texture. Swap out that soap on a rope for a triple-milled delight. You want to look out for products that promise to create a sense of calm and many can deliver if they’re formulated with soothing essential oils. Think lavender, ylang-ylang and neroli. If you can find a scented candle that uses these calming oils, that would be great too. You can keep it on your bathroom dresser or elevate it right next to your tub with a glass shelf. Bathroom Butler has several designs so you could find one that matches perfectly to your wall-mounted heated towel rack. Suddenly, bath time becomes a self-care ritual just as good as what any boutique hotel could offer. Better yet, you never have to worry about checking out!

Bathroom Butler’s Heritage – A Family Story

Bathroom Butler's Heritage - A Family Story

Heritage and tenacity are two defining and distinctive characteristics to describe Bathroom Butler. A brand built on core family values, Bathroom Butler is a family owned business proudly driven by integrity, passion for family, innovation and the ability to offer products to transform a bathroom based on style and functionality.

Founding member, Keith Taylor, showed a natural entrepreneurial spirit from a very young age. Having started his career working in the steel manufacturing industry, Keith would work on a number of projects in his garage late at night, coming up with ideas and inventing new products like the Rowmaster, a bodyweight exercise rowing machine, which he began manufacture and sell from his garage in 1979. The success of the Rowmaster was the first of many to follow. Thereafter Keith moved into furniture manufacturing, where his passion for innovation would translate into everything he did and would one day lead to the start of a brand that would be recognised as one of the leading manufacturers in bathroom accessories.

Keith’s children, Angela, Craig and Andrew all grew up watching their father hard at work and during school holidays would get involved and assist him, learning the ropes of the manufacturing business from a very early age. This is when Keith instilled the importance of work ethic into his children and passed on his extensive knowledge. After completing their various studies, Angela, Craig and Andrew all began to work for the company, starting from the bottom and working their way up, to eventually become leaders in the business of their own accord.

When asked what it means to have been part of the family business since the beginning, Craig says, “It is great to be able to work in an environment that was built on a common set of goals and, most importantly, family values. The words ‘family’ and ‘business’ are almost interchangeable and there is a human side to the business that emphasises that one is contributor to the family and not just an employee of a business. Everyone in a family is there to support one another and that same family support, as well as family values, can be found throughout the Bathroom Butler business. It is also not only about the Taylor family – everybody who joins Bathroom Butler becomes part of our family – we have drawn in the right people that all play a vital role in the success of the business”.

The founding company that Keith started, has today evolved to become a beloved organisation, known as Bathroom Butler. With a defined focus on innovation, quality and design, Bathroom Butler offers top end Grade 304 Stainless Steel bathroom accessories and heated towel rails that are eco-friendly and 100% recyclable. Craig concludes, “at Bathroom Butler we are passionate about looking towards the future, looking at how Bathroom Butler can constantly grow and innovate. As market leaders in the industry, we aim to always keep our customers happy through great customer service and high-quality products”.
